The Houston-based seat will have been without representation for about 11 months.

The race to fill Texas’ long-vacant 18th Congressional District seat is headed to a runoff, just before the start of a new election cycle.

Texas is suing a county for helping immigrants who are facing deportation get access to legal support.

The county recently allocated $1.3 million to groups that provide immigration legal services amid an uptick in federal enforcement. Paxton called the program “evil and wicked.”

A Houston official and a former City Council member are headed to a runoff for the vacant U.S. House seat in a heavily Democratic district.

The runoff winner will serve out the term of U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner, who died in office earlier this year. The seat will immediately be up for election again in 2026 for a full two-year term.

Houston and several surrounding cities are under a boil water notice as many residents are still without running water in their homes. Even bottled water prices doubling or tripling overnight. The Texas Attorney General's Office urged residents who suspect they are victims of price gouging to file a complaint with their office. AdDallas hotelier Larry Hamilton said that while there may be legitimate complaints of price gouging, he also wondered if some complaints lacked merit. If not, a visit from a state or local investigator to a company accused of price gouging is usually all it takes for prices to return to normal.
