Analysis: NFL wasn't at its best in conference championships
The NFL didn't put on its Sunday best for the conference championships. Before the San Francisco 49ers ran out of luck and quarterbacks, they were burned by a fourth-down catch by Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith that wasn't even a catch. Although Kyle Shanahan could have thrown a challenge flag, the league's replay assist rule allows the replay official to make a quick reversal without a challenge, something that didn't happen before the Eagles hurried to the line and snapped the ball.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, Brett Maher kicked the go-ahead field goal late and the Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 40-34 on Saturday. Gardner Minshew threw two scoring passes and had a TD run filling in for the injured Jalen Hurts, but his second interception set up Maher’s go-ahead kick. The Cowboys had to settle for Maher’s fourth field goal after Miles Sanders fumbled on the first play of the Eagles’ next possession. Needing a touchdown to win, Minshew got the Eagles to the Dallas 19-yard line with a 22-yard completion to DeVonta Smith, who had two touchdown catches. After spiking the ball to stop the clock, Minshew threw incomplete twice.

Not-so-instant replay: Eagles need TD oddly reviewed twice
Upon further review, can the reversal of a touchdown have a review? The call was ruled a touchdown but the scoring play was under review. This review conclusively showed that Smith had control of the ball and kept his feet inbounds ("I kind of felt like Michael Jackson") and the Eagles scored the touchdown for a 20-3 lead.
