Woman arrested in San Francisco assault on Uber driver
SAN FRANCISCO โ A woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of pepper-spraying an Uber driver in San Francisco who was coughed at and insulted after he demanded a passenger wear a mask, police announced. Malaysia King, 24, was arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of assault with a caustic chemical, assault and battery and other charges. Arna Kimiai, 24, who also was sought in connection with Saturday's attack, indicated through legal counsel that she intended to turn herself in soon, a San Francisco Police Department statement said. The Uber driver, Subhakar Khadka, was attacked in the cityโs Bayview District after he picked up three women. When he noticed one woman wasnโt masked, Khadkas stopped the ride and told the passengers he couldnโt continue, according to police.

Novelist Lydia Millet among National Book Award finalists
NEW YORK โ Stories of race, class and climate change were among the fiction finalists Tuesday for the 71st annual National Book Awards. The National Book Foundation, which presents the awards, announced five works in each of five categories: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, translation and young people's literature. None of the authors have been finalists before, although novelist Lydia Millet has been on the fiction longlist of 10. In 2011, Manning Marable died just before the release of โMalcolm X: A Life of Reinvention,โ a National Book Award finalist and winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Judging panels of authors, critics and others in the bookselling community selected finalists from nearly 1,700 books submitted by publishers.
