This comes after the Walt Disney Co. recently announced its “Stories Matter” initiative, which is part of its “ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion," according to its website. The company said it is in the process of reviewing its own library and adding advisories to content that includes “negative depictions or mistreatment of people or cultures.”“Rather than removing this content, we see an opportunity to spark conversation and open dialogue on history that affects us all. The following advisory will appear before these featured movies: “Aristocats,” “Dumbo,” “Peter Pan,” and “Swiss Family Robinson":“This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. "Dumbo," for example, had this statement at the bottom of the movie's description: "This program is presented as originally created. Director Tim Burton chose to not include the original crow scene in his live-action remake of "Dumbo." Disney is not the first studio to add a disclaimer on old titles that feature racial prejudices or other troubling content. They may depict some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that were commonplace in American society.
