Chef Elizabeth Johnson’s plant-forward restaurant Pharm Table will open in its new Southtown digs March 23, offering dinner, lunch, brunch and a brand new bar program.The expanded menu features starters, soups, small plates, salads and desserts, all built on what chef Johnson calls an apothecary kitchen focus. The eatery is based on her Ayurvedic approach to anti-inflammatory cooking, emphasizing eating for one's particular body type.While vegetables are the mainstay, Pharm Table also serves up a selection of sustainably raised meats and fish that can be added to dishes.The new bar program is curated in partnership with local consultant Houston Eaves, who oversaw award-winning cocktail offerings for the Esquire Tavern, Downstairs and El Mirador.Pharm table will serve up cocktails inspired by herbs, botanicals and artisanal spirits as well as a menu of zero-proof beverages. Booze offerings range from anti-inflammatory spirits to natural wines and beers, as well as a selection of agave distillates from master producers around the world.The restaurant, located at 611 South Presa Street, Suite 106, will be open with abbreviated hours as the team works to fine-tune operations. Expanded permanent hours are coming soon.

Cold beverages, hot teas and chef Elizabeth Johnson’s apothecary cocktails, as well as a rotating selection of beer wine and cider, are also available.Originally slated for a November 2020 opening, the new Southtown location currently hosts the Pharm Table food truck for outdoor dining on its expansive patio. According to the Pharm Table website, the new brick-and-mortar space will be able to safely offer indoor and outdoor dining in the coming weeks.Pharm Table, now located at 812 S. Alamo Street, is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brunch is available Friday through Sunday.

click to enlarge Courtesy of Pharm TableChef Elizabeth Johnson will close the doors of her current Pharm Table location Saturday to transition to bigger digs — and an expanded menu — in Southtown next month.Originally slated for a November 2020 opening, the new Southtown location will host a Pharm Table food truck until the restaurant is able to safely offer indoor and outdoor dining.December 19 will mark the last day of service at the current location — near the Tobin Center at 106 Auditorium Circle — which features Johnson’s Ayurvedic approach to anti-inflammatory cooking, emphasizing eating for one's particular body type.Those food philosophies will carry over into the new space, even driving the brand new cocktail program helmed by local consultant Houston Eaves, known for the innovative beverage programs of the Esquire Tavern, Downstairs and El Mirador.In addition to the restaurant's primarily plant-based food items, the food truck will offer three new craft cocktails, natural wines and beers, and other drinkable Pharm Table staples such as wellness shots and hot teas.The Pharm Table food truck will begin service on December 29, offering online, contactless ordering for patio dining or takeout. The new larger space is located at 812 S. Alamo Street, and plans to open its doors in Southtown by mid January.

On the contrary, Pharm Table is relocating to larger digs in Southtown this fall, boasting an expanded menu and new leadership.Along with the growing footprint, Johnson is broadening lunch and dinner offerings to include what she’s calling an apothecary kitchen approach. Consultant Houston Eaves, known for the innovative beverage programs of the Esquire Tavern and Downstairs, will oversee beverages with a focus on natural wines and beers plus cocktails using high-quality spirits and fresh, herbaceous ingredients. "The idea is to generally align the cocktails with Ayurvedic principles using spices and citrus ... with accessible cocktails that use ingredients that typically fly under the radar," Eaves told the. The restaurant will also include distanced seats in the interior and exterior dining areas plus designated spaces for curbside pickup.

Pharm Table chef Elizabeth Johnson is bringing four of her popular vegan, gluten- and sugar-free desserts including avocado chocolate mousse and blueberry aai, mango and mesquite horchata cheesecakes to local shelves at Whole Foods Market , starting Oct. 7.Packaged in eco-friendly biodegradable containers, the desserts will be available at both Whole Foods Markets locations, including the Alamo Quarry Market and the Vineyard shopping center.We are thrilled to get more locally made plant-based treats onto supermarket shelves, chef Johnson said in a recent press release. As a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, our culinary community is addressing food waste, post-consumer waste and health and wellness.Since 2015, Johnson has brought her knowledge of anti-inflammatory ingredients, heritage crops and power foods to Pharm Table's plant-forward menu.Johnson is currently working to bring that knowledge to her second restaurant Acequia , slated to open alongside food concepts from local chefs Johnny Hernandez and Steve McHugh in Maverick Plaza at La Villita by 2021.
