Princess Cruises will launch trips from Tokyo starting next year, after Japan lifted its ban on international cruises.

The same Princess Cruise ship has seen infections arise despite passengers and crew being vaccinated.

SAN ANTONIO – The last of the quarantined evacuees from the Grand Princess cruise ship were released from their two-week, federally mandated quarantine at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland on Wednesday, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services officials said. About 100 evacuees all ended their quarantine this week. Twenty people were released Monday, 75 were released on Tuesday and the remaining seven departed Wednesday morning, according to an HHS spokesperson. Fifteen of the quarantined evacuees tested positive for COVID-19 while in San Antonio, including one of the Wuhan evacuees, nine of the Diamond Princess evacuees and five of the Grand Princess evacuees. An HHS spokesperson said all have now been medically cleared and released from quarantine.

Shares of Norwegian Cruise Line soared nearly 40%, Royal Caribbean surged 28% and Carnival jumped 20%. Casino stocks were some of the biggest winners, with MGM Resorts soaring nearly 40% and Wynn Resorts jumping 21%. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines Shares of airline stocks rallied Tuesday on optimism about a coronavirus stimulus deal. Shares of American Airlines rallied 30%, Delta Air Lines rose 19% and United Airlines jumped 23%. A plane carrying 51 evacuees from the coronavirus-stricken Grand Princess cruise ship landed at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland early Thursday morning. The plane is the second to arrive in San Antonio from Oakland, California, where more than 2,000 passengers have disembarked since Monday, en route to quarantine facilities in Georgia, California, and Texas. Mayor Ron Nirenberg said the flight that landed at 4:48 a.m. Thursday was carrying Texas residents who will remain in San Antonio for the duration of a federally mandated 14-day quarantine. Only Texas residents will remain at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland for quarantine; other evacuees will return to their home states. Nirenberg said that the biggest priority is to prevent and delay transmission of COVID-19 in San Antonio and Bexar County.

About 120 passengers from the coronavirus-stricken ship will arrive at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland on the heels of a flight Tuesday night that brought 98 people to the base for a 14-day quarantine. But in the end, only evacuees that are Texas residents will remain at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland for quarantine, and other evacuees will return to their home states. Roughly 100 passengers from a cruise ship that was carrying roughly 20 people infected with the new coronavirus are headed to Lackland Air Force Base for quarantine, the San Antonio Express-News reported Sunday. Passengers on the Grand Princess cruise ship being sent to the base are currently asymptomatic. The newspaper reported that San Antonio officials were informed about the news in a Saturday call with the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. The ship has been docked off the California coast for days, with roughly 3,000 people stuck on board. The predicament of the Grand Princess is reminiscent of the Diamond Princess cruise liner, also owned by Carnival, which was quarantined off Japan in February and was for a time the largest concentration of coronavirus cases outside of China, where the outbreak originated. About 700 people aboard that ship became infected, and six have died. On Friday, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, leading the U.S. government response to the coronavirus, announced that 21 crew members and passengers had tested positive. Pence said those requiring medical care would receive it and that all crew members would likely remain quarantined aboard the vessel.
