Tennessee has executed Harold Wayne Nichols by lethal injection for the 1988 rape and murder of 20-year-old Karen Pulley, a student at Chattanooga State Community College.

Attorneys for Tennessee death row inmate Harold Wayne Nichols are asking the governor to convert his sentence to life imprisonment with just a month until his scheduled Dec. 11 execution date.

The Tennessee Supreme Court has set execution dates for four people, including the only woman in the state on death row.

Twenty-eight men have died by court-ordered execution so far this year in the U.S., and nine other people are scheduled to be put to death in seven states during the rest of 2025.
