Haas cuts Mick Schumacher and replaces him with Hulkenberg
Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, is out at Haas and Nico Hulkenberg will return to the grid fulltime next season in his place. “I would like to thank Mick Schumacher for his contribution to the team over the past couple of years,” Haas team principal Günther Steiner said in a statement. The owner of Haas F1 said Mick Schumacher must score some points over the final four races of the season to show he deserves a third season in that seat. The relationship between Haas F1 and its Russian sponsor and driver became untenable following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the owner of the United States-based Formula One team said Sunday. Gene Haas also said his team was financially stable despite the decision Saturday to cut ties with Russian driver Nikita Mazepin and sponsor Uralkali. The F2004 was the Ferrari in which the elder Schumacher won the last of his seven Formula 1 titles 15 years ago. The 20-year-old is currently racing in Formula 2 for PREMA Racing and the Ferrari driver academy, with Hockenheim not on the F2 calendar.
