Nearly a year after the Alamo redevelopment plan was sent into a tailspin, a revised and less costly version of the plan is starting to emerge.

The yet-to-be-designed Alamo museum will be housed in historic buildings by the Alamo Plaza, county commissioners heard Tuesday.

A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida returned an indictment Thursday charging two U.S. citizens and a Dutch national with conducting a foreign exchange trading scheme to steal $30 million from their investor victims. The defendants allegedly told the victims that their funds would be traded using an online trading platform provided by Echadi’s company, IB Capital. In May 2012, they allegedly executed their scheme by intentionally creating losing trades for the investors and stole $30 million from their victims. The defendants are charged with conspiracy to commit securities fraud, securities fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. If convicted, the defendants face a maximum penalty of five years in prison for conspiracy to commit securities fraud and 20 years in prison for each of the other charges.

NEW YORK – The University of Pittsburgh has acquired the archive of the late playwright and Pittsburgh native son August Wilson, a trove that contains recordings, letters, artwork, poetry, unpublished work and notebooks. The August Wilson Archive will reside in a state-of-the-art home in Hillman Library’s renovated Archives & Special Collections, the university said Thursday. “This acquisition is about more than bringing August Wilson back home to Pittsburgh,” said Chancellor Patrick Gallagher in a statement. Next up this December is “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” directed by Tony-winner George C. Wolfe and adapted by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. Washington says “The Piano Lesson” is the next Wilson work he hopes to bring to the screen.

He was actually described by many that we interviewed as quiet, polite, nice guy, and a good listener, Deputy Chief Patrick Gallagher said. The gunman began his day by emailing a respectful resignation letter, offering his two-week notice for personal reasons, Gallagher said. He then conducted an uneventful work day, sending emails and visiting job sites with co-workers. They were generic, municipal, work-related type of emails, Gallagher said, the last being sent at 3:55 p.m., five minutes before the shooting started. Four officers stood their ground, shooting through the door and wounding the shooter, who later died in the hospital.
