Emmy Awards 2019: All of the Major Milestones and Historic Wins

Between the Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies, which were handed out the weekend prior, there were also several historic and notable wins that will make 2019 a memorable one for years to come. The series also extended its record for the most wins for a drama series with 59 Emmys while also setting a new record for the most Emmy wins for a final season of a drama series. RuPauls wins for hosting and Outstanding Competition Program makes him the second most awarded African-American person in Emmy history with six awards, putting him just behind Hayma Washington, who has seven total wins. The win is the only Emmy for the revival while the series took home two during its original run. Peter Dinklage Sets Emmy Record With Fourth Win for 'Game of Thrones'

The Game of Thrones star collected his fourth Emmy on Sunday, wrapping up his eight-season run as Tyrion Lannister on the HBO series in epic fashion. With Dinklages fourth win in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category, in which he has received nominations in for every season of Game of Thrones, he sets a new record with the most Emmys ever in the category. It's been about 10 years...," Dinklage said onstage to accept his award, referencing the last decade dedicated to Game of Thrones. The most decorated Game of Thrones actor, Dinklage holds the record for the most Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series nominations with eight. Game of Thrones leads all shows this year with 32 Emmy nominations, where it is up for seven major drama categories being presented during Sundays telecast, including Outstanding Drama Series.

Game of Thrones Dominates the Emmy Nominations in Final Season

Game of Thrones is going out on top. On Tuesday, the Television Academy announced the nominees for the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards with the HBO series earning a total of 32, including Outstanding Drama Series, for its eighth and final season. While the series has been rewarded with 47 wins over the course of the series -- the most for any scripted drama -- the final season was met with fan backlash and mixed reviews. Last season, Game of Thrones garnered 22 nominations, including seven for the top acting, writing and directing prizes as well as Outstanding Drama Series. In total, the series has received 128 nominations and remains the most nominated and most awarded drama series in the history of the Emmys.
