Former San Antonio poet laureate Nephtalí De León is suing the City of San Antonio for defamation and wrongful termination of his contract.

Eduardo “Eddie” Vega, a director at Holy Cross San Antonio, will serve as San Antonio’s poet laureate beginning April 1, ultimately finishing his term on March 31, 2027.

U.S. poet laureate Ada Limón is launching her intended signature project in April.

The former San Antonio poet laureate said the poem Nephtali De Leon had posted on his Facebook page caused “a visceral and a gut reaction, and for some people, that may have been triggering.”
