Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James holds his ankle after going down with an injury during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Atlanta Hawks Saturday, March 20, 2021, in Los Angeles. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez)LOS ANGELES โ€“ LeBron James left in the second quarter with a high right ankle sprain that the Lakers said will sideline him indefinitely, and Los Angeles went on to fall 99-94 to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. Two hours after the game, the Lakers announced that James is out indefinitely. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez)LOS ANGELES โ€“ LeBron James injured his right ankle during the Los Angeles Lakers' game against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, leaving the court in visible frustration after attempting to play through the injury. James left early in the second quarter, and the team later announced he would not return. AdJames had missed only one game this season, sitting out the Lakers' final game before he had to travel to Atlanta for the All-Star break.

The Finals are set: LeBron, Lakers will meet Butler, Heat

Get ready for the NBA Finals โ€” a title series like none other, to end a season like none other. The Heat won the Eastern Conference title Sunday night, finishing off Boston a day after the Lakers won the Western Conference crown. So, for the first time โ€” well, excluding the leagueโ€™s inaugural season โ€” two franchises that missed the playoffs the previous season will meet in the NBA Finals. โ€œWe know why I came here,โ€ said Lakers All-Star forward Anthony Davis, whose first finals trip comes in his first L.A. season. The last Lakersโ€™ championship was in 2010, when Bryant got his fifth and last title.

Tyler Herro โ€” still just 20 years old โ€” scored a Heat rookie-record 37 points, Jimmy Butler had 24 and Miami beat the Boston Celtics 112-109 on Wednesday night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. They erased a double-digit deficit to take a one-point lead in the fourth โ€” then saw the Heat run away again. The other: Magic Johnson, who had 42 in Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals for the Los Angeles Lakers. And the Heat rookie playoff record was 27 by Dwyane Wade in 2004; it now belongs to Herro, who scored 17 points in the fourth alone. The biggest Heat lead in the first three games had been eight points.
