USWNT star Carli Lloyd is "seriously considering" kicking in the NFL after nailing a 55-year field goal at a Philadelphia Eagles practice last week. (CNN) - USWNT star Carli Lloyd is "seriously considering" kicking in the NFL after nailing a 55-year field goal at a Philadelphia Eagles practice last week. Lloyd was offered the chance to participate with two different teams in NFL preseason games this week, her coach James Galanis told CNN. "She declined because she is playing with the USA women's national team on Thursday but is seriously considering a future in the NFL," he said. Lloyd took many by surprise when she stopped by a Philadelphia Eagles practice on August 20 and hit field goals from 40 and 55 yards.

New Nike ad honors US women's World Cup triumph

Ian Walton/Getty Images for Nike(CNN) - In its ad celebrating the U.S. women's national soccer team victory in the 2019 World Cup, Nike supported the team's fight for pay equity. Minutes after the USWNT won its second consecutive Women's World Cup championship and its fourth overall Nike aired a 60-second ad in honor of the victory. The ad centers on the concept that the USWNT's win is about more than just winning a soccer title. The ad ends with a shot of the USWNT holding up the World Cup trophy, and concluding words flash across the screen: "This team wins. The US national team's World Cup journey has been lucrative for Nike, which sells the team's jerseys.

Social media becomes ode to Rose Lavelle in breakthrough World Cup

(CNN) - The Women's World Cup may be over for another four years, but the breakthrough tournament of one young US star already has fans excited about the future. Just four years ago, the slight Washington Spirit star was watching some of her now teammates lift the World Cup from a pizza shop as an amateur footballer. Not many players in the world will have enjoyed such a meteoric rise -- from World Cup final pizza parties to World Cup final winner. Last month US Soccer and USWNT agreed to enter mediation after the World Cup was over. "Psssh, I'm not going to the f*****g White House," she told a reporter last month, after being asked if she was excited about visiting should the US win the World Cup.

Alex Morgan: Tea-sipping celebration criticism illustrates double standard

Stuart Franklin/Getty Images(CNN) - US women's soccer star Alex Morgan, who came under fire for miming sipping tea after a goal against England on Tuesday at the 2019 Women's World Cup, is defending her celebration. She called the criticism a double standard for female and male athletes. "And when I look at sipping a cup of tea, I'm a little taken aback" by the criticism. Turner congratulated Morgan and the USWNT on their win in an Instagram Story on Friday. "Unfortunately, the UK women's football team lost at the World Cup, and of course, I'm incredibly sad," Turner said.

No Rapinoe, no problemIn a brilliant first half, Rapinoe's replacement Press opened the scoring, heading home from a Tobin Heath cross. As much as Heath has been piercing through defensive lines throughout this competition, England's White has been lethal in front of goal. With her first chance, the England striker struck from close range for her sixth goal in five games after a fine cross from Beth Mead. Asked if her team could have done any more to reach a first final, she lachrymosely replied: "Score."

USWNT advances to Women's World Cup final

USA players celebrate following their sides victory in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup France Semi Final match between England and USA. (CNN) - For the ability to rise to the occasion, for the aptitude to turn a blind eye to pressure and produce on the grandest of stages, there is still no team quite like the US as the defending champion saw off a talented England team 2-1 to reach the Women's World Cup final. Though challenged by the world's finest teams in the knockouts, the USWNT remains firmly on its perch. But England will be kept awake at night by thoughts of what might have been after captain Steph Houghton missed a penalty in the final 10 minutes. It is rare for such an anticipated match to live up to its promise, but this semifinal between the No.1 and No.3 ranked teams in the world certainly did.
