This 1920s Piece of History Reveals a Powerful San Antonio Legacy

What if one artifact could bring an entire legacy back to life? SAAAACAM Archivist Caira Spenrath shares a rare piece from the 1920s that tells the story of a remarkable local woman, educator, activist, actress, and so much more, who earned her bachelor’s degree from Howard University. Born in Gonzales, Texas and raised in San Antonio, she dedicated her life to service, returning to Texas to pour back into her community including teaching at Phillis Wheatley High School.
