Driver in deadly crash ID'd as Fort Sam Houston police officer

Justin Fey, 49, is civilian member of 502nd Security Forces Squadron

SAN ANTONIO – A man charged in the drunken driving deaths of two people is a police officer at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, a joint base spokesman confirmed Monday morning.

Justin Fey, 49, crashed head-on into another vehicle around noon Saturday on Loop 1604 just north of FM 1346 in East Bexar County, killing two adults inside the car and injuring three children, Bexar County sheriff’s deputies said.

Investigators said the two people killed in the crash were the parents of the three children. One of the adults died at the scene of the crash and the other died while being taken by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital.

AirLife flew one of the children and an ambulance took two others to University Hospital. All are expected survive.

Fey is a civilian member of the 502nd Security Forces Squadron based at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, JBSA spokesman Todd White said.

White said said that since the crash occurred off-post, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has jurisdiction over the criminal investigation.

Fey faces two intoxication manslaughter charges, two counts of intoxication assault and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

The identities of the two people killed in the crash have not been released.
