SAN ANTONIO – A 21-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection with the shooting death of his friend during a robbery in August.
Zachary Vargas is charged with capital murder in the Aug. 2 slaying of Brandon Pizana, 19, at a home in the 200 block of Montrose.
San Antonio police spokesman Sgt. Jesse Salame said Vargas set up the robbery and served as the getaway driver as two men went into the home and robbed and shot Pizana.
"It was particularly tragic, because this was a good friend of his, and he orchestrated the whole thing," Salame said. "He set it up, and even provided the weapon."
When he was asked by reporters if Pizana was a friend of his, Vargas said, "Yeah, he was a friend of mine."
But Vargas denied being involved in the robbery and slaying.
"I didn't do anything," he said.
Two men have also been charged with capital murder in the case.
Darnell Allen Lee and Juan Mendez were arrested in late August and charged with capital murder.
