Parker suffers ruptured left quadriceps tendon during fourth quarter of Game 2

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Spurs have announced that veteran star point guard Tony Parker will miss the rest of the 2017 NBA playoffs after suffering a season-ending injury to his left quadriceps tendon.

Parker suffered a ruptured left quadriceps tendon with less than nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals and had to be carried off the court by his teammates.

The 34-year-old Spurs point guard tried to put weight on his left leg but quickly went to the floor wincing in pain and holding the left leg.

Video captured by KSAT showed Parker being carted off to the locker room in a wheelchair.

The Spurs were ahead by 14 points when Parker left the game.

He scored 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting with four assists.

Parker, who is in his 16th season with the Spurs, was a huge factor in the 121-96 blowout win over the Houston Rockets.

The Spurs tied up the series with the Rockets after losing Game 1, 126-99.

Shortly after the game, head coach Gregg Popovich was asked about the severity of Parker’s injury. “It doesn’t look good,” he said.

Popovich was asked if knew what happened to Parker, who was driving to the basket and lifted off his left leg for a teardrop, but Popovich shook his head.

Parker was averaging 15.9 points and 3.1 assists and shooting 58 percent from the three-point line in this year’s NBA playoffs.
