No-swim warning issued for Padre Island National Seashore due to rip current

Beachgoers need to make alternate plans this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Due to Tropical Storm Cindy in the Gulf, the Padre Island National Seashore issued a no-swim warning Monday that will extend into the weekend.

“Due to expected high tides, driving and camping on the beach will likely be very difficult to impossible on Wednesday and Thursday -- these activities are NOT recommended. Please DO NOT SWIM during a rip current event,” the Facebook post states.

Padre Island is also expected to see some high tides Wednesday and Thursday.

The National Weather Service will provide more information about Cindy and how it could affect beachgoers in the coming week.
