SAPD arrest suspect in deadly Northeast Side shooting behind warehouse

21-year-old Kia Dotson is being charged with capital murder

A man has been arrested after shooting and killing another man during a robbery gone wrong on the Northeast Side, San Antonio police say.

21-year-old Kia Dotson is being charged with capital murder.

The San Antonio Police Department released surveillance video of the victim, 25-year-old Caesar Garcia, being shot and killed behind a Northeast Side warehouse earlier this week.

The surveillance video, posted to the department’s Facebook page, shows Garcia walking out of the building just after 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The warehouse is located along Northeast Loop 410 near FM 78.

In the video, two men, including Dotson, approach Garcia to meet up for some reason, according to SAPD.

As Garcia started to walk up a small flight of stairs, police believe Dotson and another male tried to rob him.

Police said Garcia tried to fight back, but Dotson and his accomplice shot him multiple times.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

HELP US ID THESE MURDER SUSPECTS On February 29, 2024 at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the 6900 block of NE Loop 410, SAPD Officers responded to a shooting with a hit. Upon arrival, they located a deceased male on the stairwell near the entrance of his workplace. Glock switches in small plastic baggies and shell casings were near the victim’s body. Surveillance video shows the victim walking out of the front entrance of his workplace. Shortly after, two black males are seen walking toward the victim. It was apparent that the victim was meeting up with the suspect. As the victim walked toward the stairwell, the black male, wearing all black, grabbed him from behind and placed a gun to his head. The victim fought back with the suspect, and the secondary suspect, wearing a red hoodie and light-colored joggers, pulled out a handgun and began discharging it toward the victim several times. The suspect in all black also discharged his firearm. At this time, it does not appear that the suspects robbed the victim. In addition, there was a lookout driver that stayed in the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle is black, missing a bumper, and appeared to be a black Hyundai Sonata. The video also showed a black car, what SAPD described in the post as a “black Hyundai Sonata” and “missing a bumper,” that police believe was the getaway vehicle.

According to the department’s post, officers at the scene found Glock switches in small plastic baggies near Garcia’s body.
