Nearly 38 million Kidde fire extinguishers recalled in US

Products may not activate in fire emergency

SAN ANTONIO – Check your fire extinguisher: Nearly 38 million Kidde fire extinguishers in the U.S. are being recalled because they may fail to work in a fire emergency.

Some of the recalled extinguishers date back to the 1970s.

The problem is that they may clog and fail to activate or the nozzle may break off, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Two styles were recalled: 134 models with plastic handles and eight models with push buttons.

The CPSC is aware of one death. In 2014, two fire extinguishers would not work for emergency responders at the scene of a fiery car crash in Pennsylvania.

Owners should contact Kidde for a free replacement and instructions to return the recalled product. The replacements have metal handles.

Kidde can be reached at 855-271-0773 or at www.kidde.com.
