SAN ANTONIO – The Northside Independent School District trustees Tuesday approved a $14.6 million compensation package that will provide an increase in salary for about 14,000 employees, effective during the new school year.
Teachers, librarians, counselors and nurses will receive a 1.8 percent increase, equaling about $1,000. Other auxiliary positions that are hard to fill will receive an increase in salary of up to 3 percent, officials said.

The starting salary for beginning teachers was also raised. First-year teachers with a bachelor's degree will earn $51,750, first-year teachers with a master's degree will earn $53,250 and substitute teachers will receive a pay increase of $5 per day.
A growth and improvement plan was also approved by trustees, allowing an increase in staff by an additional 198 positions to accommodate an increase in student enrollment for the 2016-17 school year, the opening of two new schools and startup costs for Harlan High School.
NISD officials said the projected enrollment for the 2016-17 school year is 106,150.
