South San ISD not under investigation; TEA corrects error internally

SAPD looking into allegation, district spokesperson says

SAN ANTONIO – South San Independent School District is not under investigation. The news comes a week after the Texas Education Agency announced it was looking into three complaints against the district, including an alleged slush fund.

The TEA has retracted the letter announcing the investigation and issued an apology to the district, saying: “This letter was drafted and inadvertently released before being reviewed and approved. This error has been corrected internally and should not happen again.”

“These were just allegations that someone brought forward that the TEA was just kind of gathering information on, so it was never an investigation in the first place into us,” said Jocelyn Durand, South San ISD spokesperson.

Durand said a San Antonio Police Department probe into one of the allegations is ongoing. A coach is accused of misappropriating up to $135,000.

Durand said that coach is no longer with the district.
