Bud – Flower of the marijuana plant containing the highest concentration of THC. Buds are harvested and used for recreational or medicinal purposes.

Cannabis – Flowering plant that produces three species: sativa, indica and ruderalis.

Cannabinoids – Compounds exclusive to cannabis that have various effects on the human body and have valuable medicinal uses.

CBD – Abbreviation for cannabidiol, found in cannabis. Research confirms it effectively treats pain, inflammation and anxiety without a "high," or psychoactive effect.

Dispensary – General term referring to a place where patients can safely purchase cannabis from a legal cannabis distributor.

Edibles – Cannabis-infused foods. Baked goods are the most popular form of edibles but butters and oils are also sold for consumers to make their own edibles.

Indica – Common name for cannabis indica, a species of marijuana originating from the Middle East. These plants are shorter, bushier and usually induce a more relaxing physical effect.

Sativa – Common name for cannabis sativa, a species of marijuana originating from South America and Africa. These plants are taller and take longer to flower than indica plants, and typically produce more cerebral effects.

THC – Abbreviation for tetrahydrocannabinol, found in marijuana plants. Research verifies it as an effective medical treatment for numerous conditions. There is no lethal dose in its natural form.

Tincture – Liquid cannabis extract that is usually placed under the tongue, where it’s absorbed quickly. Tinctures can be added to drinks and other mixtures.

Topical – Lotions, creams and waxes that contain cannabis. These products are absorbed through the skin and used to treat different ailments.

Vaporizer – Device used for consuming marijuana. Buds or THC-infused oils can be used to produce vapor that is healthier than the traditional smoking method because of the absence of smoke.
