School bus involved in fatal Highway 16 crash

ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas – One person was killed and three others were injured Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash involving a school bus south of Jourdanton in Atascosa County.

A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene told KSAT 12 News that a car headed north on Highway 16 tried to pass a Jourdanton Independent School District bus on the right-hand shoulder when it hit the bus and then a pickup truck coming in the opposite direction.

The driver of the car was killed, the trooper said. Two people in the pickup truck were injured. One of them was airlifted to University Hospital and the other victim was taken to South Texas Regional Hospital in Jourdanton. A student in the bus suffered minor injuries.

There were 15 to 18 students in the bus at the time.
