Dublin Dr Pepper discontinued

Soda fans rush to stores for last bottles

SAN ANTONIO – Dublin Dr Pepper is now a collector's item.

The soda is a special blend of Dr Pepper, made with pure cane sugar at the bottling plant in Dublin, Texas.

The hard-to-find specialty product developed a small, cult-like following over the years.

"It's very sad. It's a product that's been around for a very long time. I was upset," said Yvonne Moran, a Dr Pepper drinker.

"It's sweeter and I just like the flavor of it more. I was never a big Dr Pepper person but Dublin Dr Pepper, I would always go for that," said Gini Shafter, a Dublin Dr Pepper fan

The product was discontinued after Dr Pepper ended it's 120-year relationship with the Dublin-based bottler.

Now the company will be known as "Dublin Bottling Works."

Almost immediately after the announcement, Dublin Dr Pepper started to fly off shelves.

One of the few places in town to sell Dublin Dr Pepper is Central Market. By Thursday afternoon, they were completely sold out.

An employee said someone went into the store yesterday and bought every last bottle.

Now bottles are being sold on eBay. Prices range from about $30 for a 6-pack to $10,000 for a case, plus shipping.

Dr Pepper does plan to continue selling Dr Pepper sweetened with cane sugar, but it will no longer be made at the Dublin plant or carry the Dublin name.
