SAN ANTONIO – A second man now joins Dustin Ammons, 31, on the list of suspects in the theft of more than $100,000 worth of jewelry from Costco on UTSA Boulevard in July.
San Antonio police arrested the man, whose name they did not release immediately, at his apartment near Callaghan and Babcock roads late Wednesday night.
As he was being led out of police headquarters in handcuffs, the suspect told reporters police had collared the wrong person.
"You got an innocent man," he said. "Absolutely. They caught the wrong guy. It's a mistake they make fairly often."
The suspect also said he did not have any of the stolen merchandise in his possession, although San Antonio police said that he did.
Detectives believe the man who they arrested, along with Ammons, broke into Costco on UTSA Boulevard July 12 by bending back a metal door.
The suspects were able to avoid being seen by employees. San Antonio police said it appears that neither suspect had ever worked for Costco. Both of them are charged with burglary.
