Next school year a select group of San Antonio high school seniors will be getting paid for their studies, thanks to the work of a local club.
Diploma Plus is a scholarship provided by the Rotary Club, administered through San Antonio high school counseling offices in hopes of lowering the dropout rate.
Hannah Fuller, a junior at Kipp Academy, has dreams of one day becoming a teacher, but knows she has some financial hurdles in her path.
"I have 11 siblings and my family really can't afford things," she said.
Fuller knows she will have to work hard to pay for college, but thanks to the Diploma Plus program she will have some money waiting for her.
She is set to receive the Rotary Club's $1,000 scholarship to finish high school, provided she gets good grades and attends 95 percent of her classes, which she doesn't expect to be a problem.
"As of right now, I'm No. 1 in my class and I have a 3.85 GPA, so I think I'm going to do pretty good," she said.
The program was started by local caterer Don Strange.
