8 arrested in connection with cocaine, heroin, meth distribution operation

Defendants could each face 10 years to life in federal prison

GONZALES, Texas – Federal and state authorities said they arrested six people Wednesday, along with two others last month, in connection with a drug distribution network operating in Gonzalez.

The U.S. Department of Justice said David Airhart, 22, and Lillian Sanmiguel were arrested last month, and ringleader David Anthony Navejar, 27; Derek Jesse Navarro, 26; Kelvin Lionel Wright, 23; Samantha Gonzales, 28; Luis Vasquez, 24; and Christopher Camarillo, 27; were arrested Wednesday. All eight are charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 1 kilogram of heroin, more than 5 kilograms of cocaine and more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.

Additionally, Navejar and Camarillo are facing charges of possession of firearms during a trafficking crime. The indictment states that on Dec. 17, 2013, Navejar possessed a 9 mm pistol, and on June 3, 2014, Camarillo possessed a .380-caliber pistol and a .22-caliber rifle during drug trafficking crimes. The indictment seeks a monetary judgment of $500,000.

Each defendant faces between 10 years to life in federal prison if convicted. Navejar and Camarillo each face a minimum of five consecutive years if convicted of the firearm charge.
