Family identifies victims in apparent murder-suicide

Man, woman, teen girl found dead in West Side home Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – The adult sons of a West Side woman who died in an apparent double-murder and suicide have identified her and the two other people found in the home.

Michael and John Gonzales told KSAT 12 News the woman who died was Irma Davila, 41. They identified the others as their half-sister, Destiny Davila, 14, and their stepfather, Hector Davila Jr.

As of noon Friday, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office had not officially released the names of any of them, or determined who was responsible for the deaths

At the scene Thursday, San Antonio police would only say that the man had suffered a gunshot wound to his chest. They said all three appeared to have died in a double-murder and suicide.

"My mom was really the thing that kept us together," said John Gonzales, outside the family's home Friday morning. "And my sister, you know, that was my heart. We only felt right when they were around."

The brothers said their mother had been having marital problems, and had recently separated from Hector Davila.

On Wednesday night, though, she accepted his offer for her and their daughter to have dinner with him, the brothers said.

"I never heard from her the next day. Usually she shows up, where we were at, in the morning and she just didn't," said Michael Gonzales. "My little sister, Destiny, she really didn't deserve that. She's supposed to be out here with her friends, having fun."

Friends describe Irma as a great mother and good friend, someone who always seemed happy.

"She was never ever mad or sad. She always had a smile on her face," said Linda Barrientos, who arrived to place flower wreaths and photographs on the doorstep of the home.

Perhaps more predictable than the smile on her face was the schedule Irma kept, Barrientos said. She said her friend kept a very regular routine.

"She always came out. We knew her. She was up early, back and forth," she said.

When Irma failed to stick to that routine Thursday morning, Barrientos said she instantly knew something was wrong. She said she alerted police, who then discovered the bodies.

Barrientos said she now wishes she would have called sooner, and urges others to do the same.

"Make it know that you are having problems with your spouse so this won't happen again," she said.

Friends plan to hold a vigil outside the home in the 400 block of Globe Avenue. Barrientos said it will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday.
