Good samaritans save airport police officer's life

Sudden cardiac death causes officer's heart to stop

SAN ANTONIO – It was a near-death experience that changed an 8-year veteran San Antonio Airport Police officer's life forever.

His wife said thanks to the quick actions of nearby Good Samaritans, her husband, Officer Collis Boone, is alive. The power of prayer helped the family get through this very scary time in their lives.

Days ago, Barbara Boone thought she was going to lose her husband, but her husband survived after his heart suddenly stopped.

"Everyone is just praying for him and people I didn't even know, so he's just doing really well," said Barbara.

Last week, Collis came on duty at San Antonio International Airport when he collapsed while talking with a fellow officer.

His wife said by the grace of God, a doctor was walking by at that very moment and immediately started CPR.

"They used the AED, they revived his heart and at least got it going again," said Barbara.

Doctors said he suffered from sudden cardiac death. This was an unexpected for Barbara since her husband never had history of heart problems, nor did he ever complain of any type of chest pains in the past.

She said even his doctor was surprised he recovered so fast.

"Patients don't usually recover this quickly, and so it's just been one miracle after another," said Barbara.

While he remains hospitalized, his wife knows that if not for the help of strangers and prayers from friends and family, her husband would not be on such a quick road to recovery.

"I say thank you, and it seems so inadequate because I thought I was going to lose my husband and everyone just rushed in, and I am just eternally grateful," said Barbara.
