Man guilty of trafficking woman from SA to New Mexico

Wallace Carson convicted Thursday in Albuquerque

SAN ANTONIO – A New Mexico jury found Wallace Carson guilty Thursday on two counts of human trafficking of a 21-year-old woman from San Antonio to Albuquerque.

The jury also found Carson guilty of first-degree kidnapping and human trafficking of a 17-year-old girl. Wallace kidnapped the girl from a Greyhound bus station in downtown Albuquerque in February 2013.

Carson was also found guilty of two counts of promoting prostitution and two counts of accepting the earnings of a prostitute.

"I am pleased that juries are willing to understand the complexity of human trafficking, and hold offenders accountable for preying upon those who are vulnerable and subjecting those individuals to unspeakable acts and violence in order to turn a profit," New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas said in a statement. "My office is committed to pursuing justice in these cases and protecting New Mexico's most vulnerable populations."

Carson is facing 33 years in prison with a possible 64 additional years as a habitual offender.
