Fiesta campers continue party after parade

Paradegoers stick it out despite rain

SAN ANTONIO – When the Battle of Flowers Parade wrapped up Friday afternoon, the party didn't stop downtown.

The Fiesta campers stuck around, keeping the parade route festive.

However, because of last night's storms, some camps took a hit and got a little muddy, but that didn't stop everyone there from having a good time.

"No matter what, rain or shine, we're here," said Socorro Trevino, a Fiesta camper. "Mud or no mud, we're here."

Robert Trevino, who has been setting up a Fiesta camp off of Broadway for the last 30 years, said the downpour early Friday morning was incredible and that the camp looked a lot better by the afternoon.

"I was prepping the corn and I was getting everything prepped and all of a sudden, this big thunder and a whole bunch of rain came down," said Trevino. "By the time I turned around, it was just like a lake back there."

Listening to music, dancing and cheering, these campers said they are making the most of their space under the bridge.

"We had a blast," said Trevino. "We just had a piñata for the kids. They didn't care that there was mud on the ground."

Trevino said he will stay another night despite another anticipated round of storms sohe can secure his spot for the Fiesta Flambeau Parade on Saturday night.
