Drivers advised to avoid South Vandiver as tack oil is applied

Street contractor plans to begin spraying roadway with tack oil Friday

TERRELL HILLS, Texas – Drivers are being advised to avoid South Vandiver as the city's street contractor plans to begin spraying the roadway with tack oil Friday as part of the preparation for the asphalt surface.

The application of tack oil is a critical required step in the process, Terrell Hills city officials said. It helps seal the base material and provides a surface for the asphalt to properly adhere to.

Until the oil dries completely, it can be splashed by driving on the surface and be kicked up onto vehicles, officials said.

The city is asking drivers to find alternate routes to avoid driving on South Vandiver between Garraty and Rittiman roads from Friday through Tuesday. Officials said this should allow the contractor time to apply the tack oil and follow up with the asphalt.

Residents who live on the road and have no other option are advised to drive very slowly to avoid splashing the tack oil. Officials said if any gets on your vehicle, clean it off within two hours.
