Prosecutors ask for life sentence in child sex case

Ivan Sanchez convicted in 2001 case involving 9-year-old girl

SAN ANTONIO – During closing arguments on Tuesday, prosecutors asked the jury for the maximum sentence for Ivan Sanchez, 42, who was convicted on Friday on one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and three counts of indecency with a child by contact.

“In the charge for sexual assault of a child, this defendant deserves life,” prosecutor Stephanie Boyd said.

Boyd also asked for the maximum punishment, 20 years, on the indecency counts.

Sanchez’s lawyer, Warren Wolf, reminded the jury of Monday’s testimony from Sanchez’s adult children. They promised to support their father if he was given probation.

“Obviously, we believe that you should be looking at the lower range of punishment,” Wolf told the jury. “I hope and pray that you have mercy on my client.”
