Popular SA priest, the Rev. Eddie Bernal, dies

SAN ANTONIO – The Rev. Eddie Bernal, a popular San Antonio priest, died Sunday night, police said.

Bernal, 66, died at his residence at St. Benedict's Church at 4535 Lord Road of natural causes, officers at the scene said.

He was known across the city to Catholics and non-Catholics for his preaching, his personality and as the host of shows on Catholic TV.

Bernal was a lifelong runner and jogged a few times a week.

He also served at St. Matthews, St. Ann's, St. John Berchman and St. Leo's Catholic churches.
