Pilot dies after small plane crashes near Pearland Regional Airport

PEARLAND, Texas – A man has died after a small plane crashed during takeoff near the Pearland Regional Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA said an experimental category Wittman Tailwind aircraft crashed around 5:30 p.m. on County Road 127 and County Road 124.

There was only one person on board at the time of the crash, According to DPS Trooper Woodard. Jarod Baxter Ryan, 36, of Houston, had just purchased the plane on Wednesday. He was a relatively newly licensed pilot. He received his pilot's license within the last 14 days.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of investigating the crash and the FAA will be assisting.
