SAISD coach charged after being found at hotel with 15-year-old female student, police say

Crystal Nicole Rodriguez, 29, accused of having 'improper relationship'

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a local middle school teacher and coach who they say was having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Crystal Nicole Rodriguez, 29, was taken into custody on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student.

Officials with the San Antonio Independent School District confirmed that Rodriguez worked as a special education teacher at Page Middle School.

Spokeswoman Leslie Price told KSAT 12 News that Rodriguez had been hired as a brand new teacher and was in her second year at the school.

Price said Rodriguez also worked as a coach with the girls’ basketball, soccer, volleyball and track teams at the school.

She also confirmed that the teen is a former Page Middle School student.

Because of the age of the girl, police are releasing very few details about the case.

A preliminary police report says officers found Rodriguez and the 15 year old at a hotel.

It says when they questioned Rodriguez, she “admitted to having a sexual relationship” with the teen.

Police did not disclose the location of the hotel where they said the two were found.

Price said because Monday was a holiday, school officials just began notifying parents Tuesday about the arrest.

In a written statement, she said that SAISD officials also would be notifying the state Board of Education about Rodriguez’s arrest.

“We are working to gather information to ensure we have full knowledge of what has occurred,” the statement continued.

Jail records show Rodriguez posted a $20,000 bond and was released from custody Sunday.

Price said the suspect was expected to meet with SAISD’s human resources department at some point Tuesday.
