When paramedics arrived, they found Dennis Allen Crawford, Jr., 57, with a gunshot wound, deputies said in a news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect in the shooting, Brad Rick Way, 52, of Ingram, was arrested at the location, according to KCSO. He has since been booked into the Kerr County Jail on a murder charge.

The release states that Crawford and Way appeared to be roommates and had a verbal altercation on Sunday morning. That argument led to a fight, and at some point, shots rang out, according to deputies.

One shot was fired at close range, striking Crawford.

Deputies believe alcohol was involved but the incident remains under investigation.

“We are saddened by this senseless loss of life in our county,” Sheriff Larry Leitha said in the release. “All too often, disagreements escalate and spin out of control. In this case, either party could have walked away and diffused the situation before lethal force was used. This outcome did not need to happen.”

A bond amount has not yet been set for Way.
