UT student arrested for taking pictures under shower stalls at dorm hall, police say

Suspect was charged with two counts of invasive visual recording

AUSTIN – A University of Texas at Austin student was arrested for taking pictures of others under a shower stall at a dorm hall, campus police say.

UT police said that before noon on Tuesday, they received a call about a suspect taking pictures at Jester West Hall.

The suspect, who was not named, was charged with two counts of invasive visual recording, police said in a news release.

Police said there is not an ongoing threat to the community and that they are investigating.

“This upsetting news may trigger strong emotions. We encourage members of the UT Austin community to access resources available if needed,” the release states.

Students can contact UT Austin’s Counseling and Mental Health Center and faculty and staff can contact UT Austin’s Employee Assistance Program.

Concerns can be reported to the UT Austin Title IX office, police said.
