Former Houston Cougar finds a new home in San Marcos

Treylin Payne Judson commits to Houston

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The NCAA transfer portal season is in full swing and plenty of big-name players are finding a better fit for their talents.

Former Judson High School linebacker, Treylin Payne, has decided to leave the University of Houston and come a little closer to home, transferring to Texas State University.

KSAT’s RJ Marquez tweeted out the update from sources close to the Bobcats football program and Payne then retweeted RJ’s tweet:

Payne comes to Texas State after two seasons at UH, where he racked up 49 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and one interception. During his time at Judson, Treylin was a three-star prospect and the No. 79 overall linebacker in the country, according to 247Sports.

He had 366 tackles, three sacks, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions from his sophomore to senior seasons at Judson and will look to strengthen the defensive core that put on a show during the Bobcats’ Spring Game.

Another big local name who also announced he’s transferring out of the Houston Cougars program is former Wagner High School wide receiver, Joshua Cobbs, who is taking his talents to the University of South Florida.

Cobbs played his first two seasons of college football (2021, 2022) at the University of Wyoming where he caught 60 passes for 652 yards, and three touchdowns. This past year he only caught eight passes for 71 years for Houston, presumably prompting him to join the University of South Florida.

It’ll be an interesting offseason on USF’s campus as Cobbs will have to battle for playing time against other transfer wide receivers like Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen, who comes in after catching 34 passes for 456 yards through four seasons at Purdue University.
