UTSA, Texas State football game gets rivalry name, sponsor

Bobcats, Roadrunners play Sept. 23 in HEB I-35 Showdown

SAN ANTONIO – This year’s highly anticipated football game between UTSA and Texas State has an official sponsor and a rivalry name.

The home-and-home football series between the two schools for the 2017 and ’18 seasons will be branded as the H-E-B I-35 Showdown.

The Bobcats and Roadrunners play Sept. 23 in San Marcos and face off again on Sept. 22, 2018, at the Alamodome.

The San Marcos and San Antonio campuses are separated by less than 55 miles, including 33 miles of I-35 roadway.

They will meet on the football field for the first time in nearly five years this season.

This season’s game will be the first matchup between UTSA head coach Frank Wilson and Texas State head coach Everett Withers.

Both coaches are in their second year leading their respective programs.
