South Alabama gets first win in new stadium, beats Texas St.

MOBILE, Ala. – Desmond Trotter tossed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Kawaan Baker with about seven minutes to play, helping South Alabama pull away in its Sun Belt Conference opener with a 30-20 victory over Texas State on Saturday. It was the Jaguars' first win at the new 24,450-seat Hancock Whitney Stadium, which was limited to 25 percent capacity. Trotter's TD pass gave the Jaguars a 27-20 lead. Jalen Tolbert had nine receptions for 91 yards and caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Chance Lovertich that gave the Jaguars a 17-10 halftime lead. Brady McBride was 28 of 40 for 260 yards passing with a touchdown pass to lead Texas State (1-5, 1-2).

Harris scores 4 TDs, UTSA holds off Texas St. 51-48 in 2OT

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Hunter Duplessis kicked a 29-yard field goal in the second overtime, Frank Harris accounted for four touchdowns, and UTSA won its season opener, beating Texas State 51-48 in a wild finish on Saturday. Sincere McCormick ran for a program-record 197 yards on 29 carries and had a 5-yard touchdown run for UTSA. Harris was 23-of-31 passing for 169 yards and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Cephus, who made a spectacular one-handed catch in the first overtime. Harris had scoring runs from 17, 19 and 13 yards and finished with 52 yards rushing. Vitt was 26-of-39 passing for 346 yards and threw four touchdown passes and two interceptions.

SMU holds on to win first game at Texas State, 31-24

SAN MARCOS, Texas Shane Buechele threw for 367 yards and a touchdown and SMU held on despite two second-half turnovers to win its first game at Texas State, 31-24 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. Buechele threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Reggie Roberson Jr. in the third quarter that gave the Mustangs the lead for good, 24-21 late in the third quarter. Brady McBride was 21-of-39 passing for 227 yards and two touchdowns in his first start at Texas State. Calvin Hill ran for 100 yards and Brock Sturges added 95 yards rushing and a 4-yard touchdown run for Texas State. McDaniel fumbled the ball to the Bobcats early in the fourth but Texas State turned it back over two plays later with a fumble.

Texas State football prepares to open season on national television amid uncertainty

The 2020 college football season officially kicks off this weekend, and Texas State is eager to start their second season under head coach Jake Spavital. Texas State athletes and coaches have shouldered the burden of uncertainty for months now. With all of the testing that weve done, it was taking 2.5 hours to do all 250 of us. The Coppell, Texas native transferred to the Bobcats from Memphis, but missed all of the 2019 campaign due to the NCAAs transfer bylaws. That national spotlight has added another layer of hype as the team prepares for game day.
