Gallo's early power surge brings hope for big 2021 season
The 27-year-old says his power surge through the first two weeks of exhibition games is for real. He's had a good start with seven hits in his first 14 at-bats, including three homers and three doubles. He's shown dominant stuff at different points throughout his career and struck out a career-high 235 batters in 2019. The 24-year-old has been a top prospect for several years and hit .350 with nine homers in 2019 at Triple-A Albuquerque. It was his first win for the Rangers since 2007, before the former starter was traded to Cincinnati for Josh Hamilton. Allard, the youngest Rangers pitcher, struck out six and walked one while throwing 94 pitches five days before his 23rd birthday. Simmons has been on the injured list since July 28. Rangers: CF Danny Santana (right forearm strain) is eligible to come off the injured list as early as Sunday.

Texas slugger Gallo still isnt sure if he had coronavirus
ARLINGTON, Texas Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo says he doesnt know if he actually had the coronavirus despite two positive tests, since he never had any symptoms and also had multiple negative tests. I wish I had an answer, he said Saturday, a day after his first workout. I really dont know.Gallo said he planned to have a more extensive antibody test to be sure after a finger-prick test didnt indicate that he had COVID-19. The All-Star slugger missed the first week of the Rangers summer camp after two positive tests that sandwiched a negative result during intake testing. He had two negative tests on his own outside of the MLB testing program, but wasnt cleared to join the team until consecutive negative tests under the protocol.
