As California begins to dry out from its recent deluges, one stark reality is coming into focus: Only 230,000 homes and other buildings are insured against flooding in a state with about 39 million residents.

A new treatment for ALS was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration two months ago and is about to become available to patients this month. However, there’s a drawback -- the price tag.

After testing out a new drug for ALS, Juan Reyes set out on a cross country road trip so that he and his high school sweetheart could check off some of their travel bucket list destinations and raise awareness of the disease along the way.

A drug in its early development stages is catching the attention of the ALS community.

As many as 30,000 people are affected with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and there are at least 5,000 cases each year. The people most at risk are military veterans.
