Tucker made two free throws for Houston after that, but Rudy Gay made two for San Antonio to secure the victory. A 3-pointer by David Nwaba got Houston within eight in the third, but the Spurs scored the next five points to push it to 82-69.
Spurs drop Wizards 121-101 in Washingtonโs return from COVID-19 layoff
The Wizards had their previous six games postponed because they did not have enough eligible players due to the leagueโs COVID-19 protocols. LaMarcus Aldridge added 15 points, Devin Vassell had 14 points and Keldon Johnson had 13 for San Antonio. Washington was 14 for 42 overall on 3-pointers, helping it stay with San Antonio through three quarters. San Antonio finished 15 for 31 on 3-pointers in securing its largest margin of victory this season. Zion Williamson had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Pelicans, scoring about half of his points on dunks. Lonzo Ball had 16 points and five steals, and Josh Hart had 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Keldon Johnson had 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Dejounte Murray had 13 points, but also turned the ball over six times. The Spurs were playing their second game in two nights after beating Toronto in San Antonio on Saturday night.
Spurs beat Rockets to keep playoff hopes alive, need help from other teams
San Antonio has won three straight and five out of seven since arriving in the Florida bubble. The Spurs will need help to be one of the teams playing this weekend for the final spot in the Western Conference, but made sure they couldn't be eliminated Tuesday with their win. San Antonio built a 19-point lead in the first half. San Antonio moves into 9th place in the West, but the position is tenuous. The Spurs need for the Memphis Grizzlies to lose both their games and Phoenix or Portland to lose one of their remaining games to get into the short play-in series.
Spurs Patty Mills donating $1 million to fight racism
The exact amount, Mills said, for the Spurs' eight remaining regular-season, or seeding, games will be $1,017,818.54. Mills isn't the only player that has announced he will be donating his salary for the eight games to charity. Mills is the longest currently tenured player on the Spurs. This is not the first time Mills has tried to shine a light on race-related issues this season. Mills was to have earned about $12.5 million this season, had the season not been interrupted and some games been canceled because of the pandemic.
