Angels acquire RHP Alex Cobb from Orioles for prospect Jones

The trade is the third in 14 months between Baltimore and Los Angeles, with the Angels thrice getting proven major leaguers in exchange for prospects.

Angels star Albert Pujols passed Alex Rodriguez on the career RBIs list with a single for his 2,087th run batted in. An RBI single by Josh Reddick with one out in the inning made it 2-0. The Angels cut the lead to 2-1 on an RBI single by Fletcher in the third.

Gallo homers and Rangers use 6 pitchers to beat Angels 2-0
ARLINGTON, Texas Joey Gallo hit a two-run homer, six Texas pitchers combined on a four-hitter and the Rangers have consecutive wins for the first time this season after beating the Los Angeles Angels 2-0 on Saturday night. It was his first win for the Rangers since 2007, before the former starter was traded to Cincinnati for Josh Hamilton. Allard, the youngest Rangers pitcher, struck out six and walked one while throwing 94 pitches five days before his 23rd birthday. Simmons has been on the injured list since July 28. Rangers: CF Danny Santana (right forearm strain) is eligible to come off the injured list as early as Sunday.

Trout turned 29, and homered for the fifth time in the seven big league games he has played on his birthday. The three-time AL MVP put the Angels up 2-0 in the first with his 444-foot drive over their bullpen in left-center. Castro was upset after striking out on a check swing in the second inning and got tossed by Edwin Moscoso, the rookie fill-in umpire who made the call from third base.
Major league teams try to ramp up the competition in camp
So teams are trying as best they can to ramp up the competitiveness of summer camps conducted in isolation. Several teams announced upcoming exhibition games, including Houston at Kansas City, Kansas City at St. Louis, and Cleveland against Pittsburgh. Catcher Omar Narvaez and outfielder Avisail Garcia will draft teams for matchups designed to approximate the intensity of regular-season games. St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks opted out of playing this season, citing underlying health concerns.
