Medina Valley High School senior hopes to make her mom proud with full-ride scholarship to Yale University
Aya Kasim, a senior at Medina Valley High School, says she was running and screaming down the school hallway when she found out her next destination after graduation was Yale University after getting a full-ride scholarship to the Ivy League school.

Applications now available for 2021 ‘Don’t Mess with Texas’ scholarship contest
Every year about 362 million pieces of litter accumulate on Texas roads, and that’s why every year a special scholarship is available for Texas High School seniors to help make a difference in the Lone Star State. The contest recognizes students currently attending public, private or home school that are taking an active role in litter prevention in their school or community. The contest is awarding a total of $9,000 in scholarships to three winners in May. Becky Ozuna, Program Administrator for the “Don’t Mess with Texas Program,” said they are looking for students who are developing creating solutions to keeping Texas litter-free. San Antonio man raising $25K for scholarship to honor late mother
SAN ANTONIO – Joseph Liedecke is on a mission to raise $25,000 to honor his beloved mother. “I want other people to know who she was.”His mother, Esther Morales Liedecke, passed away in early June of 2019. “I set up a scholarship,” Joseph said. “Most of the time people give me a little extra because they know it’s going for a good cause,” Joseph said. KSAT Community: Battle of Flowers annual oratorical scholarship contest seeks applicants; first place gets $5,000
SAN ANTONIO – The Battle of Flowers Association Oratorical Contest is open for applicants. For the first time in the 95-year history of the Battle of Flowers Oratorical Contest for college students, the contestants will not deliver their speeches in person. Due to COVID-19 restrictions placed on students' travel and with the organization’s protocol for safely gathering established, the 2021 Oratorical Contest will take place on Friday, February 26 at the Witte Museum. The top five (5) student finalists receive the following monetary scholarship awards:First place: $5,000Second place: $2,500Third place: $1,500Fourth place: $1,000Fifth place: $750There is also a prize for the department of the academic advisor of the first, second and third place winners also receive substantial awards of $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. The contest seeks to encourage young people’s interest in the history and traditions of Texas.

A teen who spent 10 hours cleaning up after a protest is rewarded with a car and a college scholarship
Matt Block saw Gwynn's story on the news and decided to give him his prized 2004 red Mustang convertible. Block, 27, told CNN the car is one he wanted since he was a child, but these days he is only using it occasionally. He saw Gwynn ask for some car buying advice on Facebook, and Matt decided to offer up his sports car. We just need to get together our whole city and show people how there's so many good people here," Briceland told CNN affiliate WKBW. After high school, Gwynn had planned to go to trade school while saving up to go to college.

South Side teen receives full-ride scholarship to MIT
SAN ANTONIO – A local high school senior from the city's South Side was accepted to and awarded a full-ride scholarship to one of the world's most prestigious universities. María García-García will graduate from Young Women's Leadership Academy and head to Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall with a four-year scholarship worth over $200,000.
