SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A second young elephant has died at a central New York zoo despite frantic efforts by staff to combat a lethal virus, zoo officials said Friday. The 5-year-old male elephant died early Friday morning, days after the sudden death Tuesday of his younger brother, Ajay. Ajay died just before his second birthday. Both died from Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpes Virus, a strain of herpes that targets Asian elephants. The zoo, one of 11 approved by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to breed Asian elephants, has six adult elephants.

The National Football Foundation on Tuesday announced the 78 players and seven coaches from major college football who are up for selection to the Atlanta-based Hall of Fame. There also are 99 players and 33 coaches from outside the highest level of college football eligible for induction. The College Hall of Fame class of 2021 will be announced early next year.

A live concert of Prince and his legendary band, The Revolution -- in Syracuse, New York in 1985 toward the end of their “Purple Rain” tour -- will be available to stream on YouTube all weekend beginning Friday, May 14 and continuing through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 17. The concert was originally released as a VHS back in the day, so Prince fans who have been there from the very beginning might have seen this show. Syracuse edge rusher Alton Robinson got the call from the Seattle Seahawks early in the 5th round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In his last two seasons with the Orange, the 6-foot-3, 264 pound pass rusher developed into a consistent threat, recording 14.5 sacks and 85 tackles. During his junior year, Robinson posted a team-high 17 tackles for loss en route to earning second-team All-ACC honors. He followed that performance up with another solid campaign in 2019, notching 9.5 tackles for loss and three pass breakups in 12 starts. Robinson will join fellow former Judson Rocket Tre Flowers on the Seahawks roster.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University has placed longtime assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine on administrative leave "in light of the new allegations and the Syracuse City Police investigation." ESPN is reporting that police are investigating Fine on allegations of child molestation. ESPN first reported the allegations, saying Fine is accused of molesting a former Syracuse ball boy, who is now 39. The alleged victim told ESPN the abuse occurred at Fine's home, at Syracuse basketball facilities and on team road trips, including the 1987 Final Four. Fine is in his 35th season as an assistant to Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim.
