(Reuters) - Two people were killed and another was wounded on Monday in a shooting at a Texas A&M University-Commerce, ABC News reported, citing campus police. All classes were canceled for the rest of the day at the university about 65 miles (100 km) northeast of Dallas, ABC said.

The incident happened at the Pride Rock Residence Hall, university police said in a tweet. Earlier, police tweeted that they were investigating a crime scene and asked the campus community to shelter in place. A man suspected of opening fire at an off-campus college party in Texas, killing two people and injuring 12 others, was arrested Monday. Brandon Ray Gonzales, 23, of Greenville, Texas, was taken into custody less than 48 hours after Saturday's shooting, Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said. The shooting happened around midnight Saturday outside Greenville, 15 miles (24 kilometers) southwest of a satellite campus of the Texas A&M University System. The shooting came as Texas A&M University-Commerce, about 60 miles (97 kilometers) northeast of Dallas, celebrated homecoming weekend. Texas A&M University-Commerce had planned to hold a community gathering Monday afternoon featuring student and faith-based leaders along with counselors.
