For some remote Canadian wildfires, best and fastest option is sending in the smokejumpers
As more than 900 fires burn in a Canadian fire season that has periodically pushed dangerous smoke south into the U.S. and even far east to Europe, one province โ British Columbia โ relies on smokejumpers to help fight the blazes.
Family claims footage contradicts SAPD narrative of fatal shooting. The public will likely never see the video.
Two months after a San Antonio police officer shot and killed her younger brother, Debra Montez Felder and SAPD officials are nowhere near to being on the same page about the last moments of his life.
WWII codebreaker Turing honored on UK's new 50-pound note
The rainbow flag is flying proudly above the Bank of England in the heart of Londons financial district to commemorate legendary World War II codebreaker Alan Turing, the new face of Britains 50-pound note. The design of the bank note was unveiled before it is being formally issued to the public on June 23, Turing's birthday. The 50-pound note is the most valuable denomination in circulation but is little used during everyday transactions, especially during the coronavirus pandemic as digital payments increasingly replaced the use of cash. AdAmong his many accomplishments, Turing is most famous for the pivotal role he played in breaking Nazi Germany's Enigma code during World War II. During World War II, Turing worked at the secret Bletchley Park code-breaking center, where he helped crack Enigma by creating the โTuring bombe,โ a forerunner of modern computers.

John Prine's wife urges Tennessee to expand absentee voting
NASHVILLE, Tenn. The wife of singer-songwriter John Prine, who died from complications of COVID-19, urged lawmakers Tuesday to expand absentee voting so Tennesseans would not have to put their health at risk to exercise their right to vote. This is not nor should it be a partisan issue, said Whelan Prine, who spoke over a video livestream and did not attend in person. Shortly after Whelan Prine finished speaking, the Senate committee spiked an absentee ballot expansion proposal. The state has more than a dozen categories that qualify someone for an absentee ballot, from being sick to being 60 or older. The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the Campaign Legal Center also have sued in federal court seeking absentee voting for all voters this year.
